Background Information:
It has been suggested that we organize a series of trail course competitions throughout the area.
But before we proceed, we need to know if you would be…
1. interested in hosting a trail course competition at your location? and if so, where are you located?
2. interested in participating?
3. interested in being an event volunteer?
4. interested in being a in-kind or cash sponsor?
Update:
I received several positive responses regarding the the idea of a Central Oregon Trail Series competition as well as a few questions, so I thought I would post those for all to see:
Q: In order to host a competition, do I need a trail course on my property or do you come out and set it up for me?
A: In order to be a host location, you need to have a trail course set up on your property. The idea is to provide more venues for these types of competitions, not just this trail series. You run the show/competition, following a few series’ guidelines, but the rest of the time the course is for you to do with as you please. You also keep any site specific fees regarding your particular competition – so if you want to charge $20 per class for your particular competition – you keep those fees. That being said, there are several people who have offered to come out and design/build a trail course on your property, for a fee.
Q. I have a trail course on my property, but I live out in Timbuktu, can I be a host location?
A. It depends. How far from the nearest town are you located? What are your facilities like? Is there room for people to camp? Are there overnight boarding facilities? Is there another trail course in your area? Could you team up and have a competitions on the same weekend so that people are more likely to travel to your locations?
Q. I know someone that is setting up a trail course on their property and they said I can use it anytime, can I still compete in the series?
A. Yes. However, the hope is that there will be a fair playing field for all the participants, so if the trail course is set up and you know they will be host locationfor the series, then we ask that you not ‘practise’ the course in its entirety. We will ask each host locationto make slight changes to their trail course set up, so that the course is slightly different than from when people are training. Think of it this way; you can practise crossing a bridge fifteen million times or crossing the water obstacle, but don’t practise the trail course in the same order as the competition.
Q. When will the trail sereis start?
A. We are in the planning stages, there are a lot of details to work out. Right now there are just the two of us, playing with the idea, and it’s not our only project. So as soon as we get the details in place, we will let you know. If you would like to help with the planning process, please let me know.
